Early Years Festival And Celebration Calendar
21st March is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), the day that the Down syndrome community creates a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome.
Children with Down’s syndrome may develop more slowly than their peers, but they have a specific learning profile. Understanding the factors that help facilitate learning will help staff to plan lessons and activities that will be more
meaningful.
  • Around one in every 1000 babies born in the UK will have Down’s syndrome.
  • Down’s syndrome is not a disease. People with Down’s syndrome are not ill and do not “suffer” from the condition.
  • People with the syndrome will have a learning disability. The learning disability affects a person’s ability to learn, it does not mean they cannot learn.
