This is a progression document for Literacy in Year 1 covering:
Handwriting:
Developing fine motor skills to print letters and numbers.
Writing from left to right and top to bottom.
Beginning to leave spaces between words.
Writing Skills:
Writing letters and beginning to write words and simple sentences.
Learning to spell high-frequency words correctly.
Starting to use punctuation marks like full stops (periods) and capital letters.
Vocabulary Development:
Learning new words through conversations, being read to, and reading.
Using new vocabulary in speaking and writing.
Understanding and following directions with multiple steps.
Reading Fluency:
Developing the ability to read aloud with accuracy and some sense of rhythm or flow.
Starting to use expression when reading aloud.
