Character Writing Sheets

These are A5 sheets with a character at the top and lines at the bottom to have to inspire children to write about their favourite character. A useful resource in the writing shed or table.
These will spark children’s interest as they can relate to cartoon characters by identifying with them, they are role models to them and they consider them their friends.
Independent writing in the Early Years helps:
Fine Motor Skill Development: Writing involves coordinating small muscle movements in the hands and fingers. By practicing writing, children strengthen these muscles and develop fine motor skills, which are crucial for tasks like buttoning clothes, tying shoelaces, and other everyday activities.
Cognitive Development: Writing fosters cognitive growth by requiring children to think about the symbols (letters) they’re creating, the sounds these symbols represent, and the words they’re forming.
Literacy Foundation: Writing complements reading in the literacy journey. As children learn to form letters and spell words, they gain a better understanding of the phonetic and structural components of the language.
Expression of Thoughts and Emotions: Writing offers children a medium to express their feelings, ideas, and experiences. Even in the early scribbling stages, children are attempting to communicate something of significance.
Boosts Creativity: Writing, especially when coupled with drawing in the early years, allows children to let their imagination run wild. They can create stories, describe fantastical worlds, or simply play with words.
Enhances Communication Skills: Writing is a form of communication. By practicing writing, children learn to structure their thoughts and convey messages effectively.
Builds Confidence: As children see their progress—from scribbles to discernible letters and eventually words and sentences—they gain confidence in their abilities.
